Nagel was possibly the most important player in German camera development, having started out in 1980 in partnership with a Herr Drexler to produce cameras under the name Drexler & Nagel

During the short period from 1928-1931 Nagel produced an array of his innovative designs. When representatives for Eastman, Kodak in Rochester, New York made him an offer to take over his company for an undisclosed amount, he accepted and signed in December 1931. The deal was that he would stay on as managing director & chief designer. The company would now become Kodak AG/Nagel-Werk. The best known Nagel design is the Kodak Retina range of 35mm compact cameras introduced in 1934. Which many believe to have been Nagel's first new design under Kodak's control

However, the Duo 620 was the first. Also Dr Nigel's first design under Kodak's control
