Issued to Artificer engineer (Sapper) Priv. Charles Henry Watts RN. He hailed from Buckfastley in Devon. He was recruited in the 185th Royal Engineering tunneling Company. His unit dug the lochnagar mine on the Somme in 1915 and fought in legendary underground battles like the Battle of Viney Ridge in April 1917, and the Battle of Cambrai where he was wounded in action on 26 November 1917 and later succumbed to his injuries on 5 Dec 1917. On this date tunnelers were ordered to operate as infantry to defend Bourlon Ridge due to infantry shortages and he was ultimately killed in the defensive stand. His remains were moved to the Cambrai East military cemetery. - This VC replica might have been made by the 185th engineering corps to honor him.
